Position Title

Community Support Worker (CSW)

Position Status

Permanent Part-Time


This role is to support a wonderful and determined man three times/ week.  This position is great for someone who enjoys going out for drives to local Vancouver landmarks, dining out at restaurants and visiting various coffee shops. This position, or more so the relationship that comes from this position, is an important part of supporting this person to live a good well-balanced life. This individual is currently navigating many transitions. Patience will be key to developing a positive relationship.

Duties and responsibilities

You will meet this person at their home which is in East Vancouver. Most afternoons will involve going out for a drive and then visiting a coffee shop, having lunch out or in a park and supporting the individual to keep connected with their social network. Afternoons often also involve walks in downtown Vancouver and the Collingwood Neighbourhood area.

Other duties may include:

Provide information to the person when there is potential for complex challenges
Supporting the person with personal care while in community.
Supporting the person to attend various appointments.
Communicate with a fun and supportive team
Support dignity and independence
Supporting the person's right to safety as well as independence and risk.

Driving Requirement

Driver's license (Class 5)

Preferred Training or Experience

We are recommending a minimum 1-year related experience working within the community living sector or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.  Mental health experience would be an asset.

Skills and Abilities

Calm and confident presence
Good listener
Demonstrated knowledge of practical skills in supporting people to observe and resolve conflicts in the community
Mandt training
Demonstrated ability to communicate key information to team members and supervisors
Driving is required

Specific Training or Experience Required

Supporting People who get anxious; Preferred at minimum 1 year experience working in the community living sector

Expected Hours of Work

M/W/F 11-3
This position can be combined with other positions and there are also opportunities for additional relief/respite shifts with this person.
